Ballerina, a female-centric spinoff of the expanding John Wick franchise with Ana de Armas as a lead. The film will focus on a ballet dancer who wants vengeance for the loved ones taken from her.
Ana de Armas made a name for herself in the action world with performances in films like No Time to Die and The Gray Man.
Creators of John Wick’s universe presented us the Ruska Roma in the third part of franchise where Anjelica Huston played the head teasing the ballerina’s topic and a possible fascinating layer of female assassins.
Actually, no wonder, the female protagonist topic is very popular after Atomic Blonde, Hanna, Anna, AVA, Peppermint, The Protege, Kate, The 355 actioners released during last few years. And there is no sign to stop as even more movies will be released soon including The Mother with Jennifer Lopez and Canary Black with Kate Beckinsale.
Ballerina is being directed by Len Wiseman and produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski, with Keanu Reeves as an executive producer.
The writer Shay Hatten sold Lionsgate his script for Ballerina in 2017 and after 5 years it is finally in production.
In the first version of the script, the lead character is Rooney Brown, an orphan who’s trained as a government assassin and goes to work for a secretive government agency. She quickly finds herself up against the town of Sunnyvale, a community in the Swiss Alps populated by killers. And before these assassins can pick her off, she decides to pay a visit to their community and murder them all.
Let’s wait how this will fit into the JW universe.
Ballerina is set for release on March 23, 2023 what is hardly believable as John Wick 4 will be released on March 24.
