Spy action-thriller The Suspect is set to screen internationally as releases have now been confirmed in seven territories. Among those is the United States, where the film will screen in 15 theaters, starting from January 10th in the New Year.
Well Go USA picked up the North American distribution rights while the Showbox title was also snatched up by distributors in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, the Middle East and the German-speaking portion of Europe. Director WON previously made the black comedy A Bloody Aria (2006) and 2007’s thriller 7 Days.
The Suspect is the fourth big budget North Korean spy-themed thriller to hit Korean multiplexes this year. It has opened on Christmas Eve (December 24th) domestically and already accrued 1.83 million admissions in just six days.
On his role, actor Gong Yoo shared, “I have been training hard for the movie with its North Korean secret assassin martial arts motif. I will show a new masculine side to myself in the movie.”
Synopsis: Dong-chul is the best field agent in North Korea – until he’s abandoned during a mission, his wife and daughter missing. On the run, torn between grief and vengeance, he’s desperate to uncover the truth — and he’ll start a war to get it.
