Check out the first trailer below. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows coming to theatres and Real D 3D June 3, 2016.
The trailer boasts all the usual summer blockbuster carnage that we’ve come to expect from superhero movies, and arguably some intimations of a plot, but perhaps of more interest are the first glimpses of a few fan favorite characters, including Casey Jones and Bebop and Rocksteady.
“I think in the first movie we weren’t sure what the Turtles were going to be,” says executive producer and screenwriter André Nemec. “We looked at these beautiful maquettes that were built and early renderings and drawings … and it was hard to get a handle on what kind of story you could kind of tell with the Turtles. And part of the process in completing that first movie allowed us to figure out what the second movie itself wanted to be. And it made us realize that we actually could lean into telling a dynamic emotional story with the Turtles.”
“You’re really going to see four brothers being brothers, and fighting and trying to make up and telling each other how they feel. I think it’s [at] the point now where we’re all a little bit older. … So with that comes, I think, your own identity. You’re going to see that, and see the four of us realize that we’re pretty different from one another.” says Ploszek.
Nemec says it was Stephen Amell’s “all-Americanness” (for a Canadian guy, he laughs) that contributed to the filmmakers’ decision to cast the Arrow star.
“I mean, I know he’s Arrow — but he has a sweetness to him and he has a charm to him that is really part of what Casey Jones is, I think in his core,” Nemec says. “As rugged and rough and tumble and cutthroat as Casey Jones is in those original graphic novels to sort of who he becomes a little bit, in some of the cartoons — a little bit funnier and a little bit more slapstick — there always seems to be a sweetness underneath Casey Jones, a desire to win, a desire to do the right thing, that Stephen just sort of, even as a person, seems to embody.”
