Filming for Donnie Yen’s upcoming modern-day action thriller, Last of the Best has moved to an outdoor filming set in Central, Hong Kong, where a dai pai dong – a Hong Kong-styled open-air food stall – was built on Gough Street.
Produced by Teddy Chan, Emperor Motion Pictures’ modern-day action thriller Last of the Best finally commenced production last month. The action-packed tale stars Donnie Yen as a martial arts instructor who gets incarcerated after committing involuntary manslaughter. When a serial killer is on the loose, the former instructor offers to track down the serial killer for the police in exchange for his freedom. Wang Baoqiang, Charlie Yeung, Bai Bing, and John Chiang also star in the film.
The Central scene filmed this week involved Donnie, Charlie, and their team of police inspectors confront John Chiang at his food stall. As the story takes place during the winter, the cast had to wear thick, long-sleeved sweaters in the 30 Celsius-degree weather. Charlie had to touch up her makeup every ten minutes, and Donnie’s undershirt was soaking wet. In between takes, the cast and crew sat inside a nearby restaurant to cool down and rest. The brief scene took almost an entire day to film.
A release date for Last of the Best is yet to be announced.
