Yeah… I really want to see this action flick. I have seen The Bourne Identity movie twice in cinema and and countless times on DVD, since then I was trying to find the same tempo and pace in The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, but did not, so this spin-off instills confidence. I did not like the way Matt Damon played a tough special agent, just did not believe he can be, so Jeremy Renner is a more better choice for this role on my opinion, I liked him in the S.W.A.T., Hurt Locker and of cause The Ghost Protocol.
What is interesting, after more than two years of securing rights to the book from Warner Brothers and a further year of screenplay development with screenwriter Tony Gilroy, Doug Liman approached a wide range of actors for the role of agent in the first movie, including Russell Crowe and Sylvester Stallone, before he eventually cast Matt Damon… do not you ask me why. Production was difficult, with screenplay rewrites occurring throughout the entire filming and Liman constantly arguing with Universal’s executives. It did not make it the most popular and profitable part of franchise, but gave a very good start.
On February 24, 2011, a list of actors met with Tony Gilroy for a role in The Bourne Legacy. The list included Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Josh Hartnett, Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Alex Pettyfer, Paul Dano, Taylor Kitsch, Kellan Lutz, Benjamin Walker, Oscar Isaac, Luke Evans, Michael Pitt, Chris Evans, Dominic Cooper and Joel Edgerton. On March 24, the studio had screen tested actors Edgerton, Cooper, Hedlund, Luke Evans and newcomer Erryn Arkin. On April 2, 2011, was reported that Jeremy Renner is expected to headline the new film… do not ask me why again.
The hugely popular espionage franchise has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office. With a budget of $60 million the first film grossed $214 worldwide in 2002. The Bourne Supremacy grossed $288 million with a budget of $75 in 2004. The Bourne Ultimatum grossed $442 million with a budget of $110 in 2007. No wonder that Tony Gilroy takes the helm in the next chapter, he expands the Bourne’s universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.
Fight coordinators of The Bourne Legacy are Jonathan Eusebio, Jon Valera and Allen Jo. Jonathan Eusebio worked on The Bourne Ultimatum, Never Back Down, Nikita TV series, Colombiana, The Avengers. Jon Valera used to work on such amazing movies like Ninja Assassin, The Expendables, Haywire, Killer Elite, Safe and now attached to the Keanu Reeves Man of Tai Chi movie. Allen Jo known as a stunt performer in The Mechanic, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and Safe alongside Jason Statham. A very good team of professionals, so we can expect very impressive fighting scenes… if there would not be a place for another shaking cam.
The Bourne Legacy comes to theaters August 3rd, 2012 and stars Rachel Weisz, Jeremy Renner, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Oscar Isaac, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, Scott Glenn.
