Chasing The Dragon

New action crime drama Chasing the Dragon is based on a true story and stars Yen as an immigrant who is caught in the underground world of corrupt cops and ruthless drug dealers, and he becomes determined to become the sole dictator in the drug empire.

The film also stars Andy Lau, Michele Hu, Kent Cheng, Philip Ng, Xu Dong-dong, Philip Keung and Wilfred Lau. Flick is co-directed by Wong Jing and Jason Kwan.

Film will feature plenty of hack-and-slash gangster-styled action choreographed by Donnie Yen and his team. But most of the budget was spent on an authentic 1970s feel for the Kowloon Walled City and Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park, which was completely demolished in 1994.

Shooting started in October and ended in December 2016. Well Go USA Entertainment already acquired rights to Chasing the Dragon.

“We have been part of Donnie Yen’s fan club for many years and are excited to see him gain a larger audience in the U.S. so that more people can witness his true talent,” Pfardrescher said.

Chasing The Dragon is an updated remake of the 1991 classic To Be Number One. The original follows “a peasant named Ho who travels to Hong Kong from mainland China looking to succeed in the criminal underworld. The streets already run rampant with Triad gangs, so Ho makes a deal with Boss Kun. If he can seize control of the district of Sham Shui Po from Kun’s rivals, he will be put in charge of it. Ho accomplishes this feat violently, and his cold-blooded ruthlessness helps him rise up through the syndicate’s ranks. Unfortunately, his vices threaten to bring him down.”
