It’s not that it’s a story we haven’t heard before. Greek warrior Theseus, played by “Man of Steel” actor Henry Cavill, has to summon the Titans in order to defeat the power-mad King Hyperion, the always-great Mickey Rourke. The comparison to 300 is quick to jump to, especially since the trailer proclaims that this comes from that movie’s producers, but once you move past the highly stylized visuals and slow-mo action, it becomes clear that Immortals has all the makings of a stunning masterpiece of its own.
Though Immortals is much more commercial than Singh’s previous works, the visual style he used in “The Cell” and “The Fall” are very evident here. This first trailer definitely showcased that side of the film, but hopefully later videos will really capitalize on the artist element that Immortals brings to the table. If not, there’s not too much to separate it from 300 and Clash of the Titans.
Fight choreographer of Immortals is 5 times world karate champion Jean Frenette, he is really busy person, who worked on such projects like Death Race, 300, Repo Men. Most of time works on French films in Canada, but lucky to help Hollywood to release blockbusters from time to time. Artie Malesci helped him on Immortals with stunts and seems to me did a great job like anytime before on the sets of popular tv series Burn Notice or Transporter 2 and 2 Fast 2 Furious movies.
Not too much, that is, except for its all-star cast. In addition to Cavill and Rourke, Freida Pinto, John Hurt, Kellan Lutz, Isabel Lucas, Luke Evans and Stephen Dorff round out the cast. It might not be the free-for-all that “Clash” was, but from what we’ve seen in the trailer it looks like Singh was able to wield his actors with a titanic amount of skill, if you’ll forgive the pun. Film is planned for release in USA on 11 November 2011.
Storyline: Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares. Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king’s hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man’s conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion…until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes…
What do you think of this new trailer? Is Immortals a film you’re looking forward to?
